I have a love/hate relationship with the internet.Â
While I love being chronically online and scrolling endlessly through TikTok, I hate posting about my personal life. If I share something online, I almost always delete it. I’ve started and deleted every blog, podcast, and Instagram I’ve created, and please don’t get me started on the number of times I’ve deactivated Facebook—Mark Zuckerberg thinks I’m a bot. I struggle with sharing my life online because something about it really bothers me, and I started this newsletter to get over that.
Every Friday I send a newsletter that I write using the following guidelines:
I don’t know what I’m going to write about each week until that week.
I do take Monday-Friday to write that week’s newsletter.
I do have fun.
I get overwhelmed when it comes to posting about myself online because I think I have to have everything planned out. I work in advertising and I’m planning and branding constantly for my clients, to the point that I think I have to do the same for myself. There is something to that, but this mindset often leads me to hit delete on all my posts.
I started this newsletter to get out of my planning head and into having fun posting online. The guidelines I've created remind me that my favorite forms of expression—writing, music, and art—aren't things you plan out; they're practices you can't delete. idk with Kimberly Bozeman is a practice I can't delete, because once you subscribe, it will be in your inbox, ready for you to read each week.
FAQ
What is idk with Kimberly Bozeman about?
My newsletter is part journal entry and part essay where I talk about anything from my daily life.
Why idk with Kimberly Bozeman?
I wanted to name my newsletter something that ties back to the premise: idk what I’m going to write about each week until that week.
Why a Substack newsletter?
Substack is a great way for writers to share their work and get paid to do it. I also like the design and aesthetic. A blog is too much commitment and the thought of making a website is too stressful.
Will you ever send more than a weekly newsletter?
In the future, I may post more often, create pre-planned newsletters, or offer monthly, annual, or founding member subscriptions. But for now, I’ll only send a newsletter every Friday. I’ll always let my subscribers know when more than just a weekly newsletter is headed their way.
Why do you write about your job sometimes but don’t say what it is or who you work with? (AKA the disclaimer)
I keep my work information private because my Substack is a personal account that doesn’t reflect the opinions of my employer or the clients I work with. Plus, I like my job and my clients. All opinions expressed here on Substack and in my newsletters are my own.
Why doesn’t your Substack have a subscribers chat?
Because we just met! I’m barely in your inbox! Subscribe below so we can hang out in your inbox every week and get to know each other first.
